The disc mower was the logical next step after the sickle bar. On top of the cutter bar, however, several small discs rotate at high speeds. Two free-swinging blades are usually attached to each disc. Within the cutter bar, a shaft or gear drives the discs. The cutter bar moves along the ground, so the cutting height is controlled by it. Without any clogging, it can easily work on thick and lodged hay. The operator of this Italian tractor mounted disc mower can achieve the desired cutting speed.
